HISPANITAS

Hispanitas Shoes Ireland

At the heart of the Spanish brand, Hispanitas is a family-run business that has grown exponentially throughout the years. Who are the people behind the brand, and what's all the fuss about? Let's take a deep dive into all things related to Hispanitas.

Hispanitas Brand History

Rewind to 1925, Alfonso Chico de Guzmán (grandfather to current owners) set up Alfama, a modest shoe production. And so the legacy begins!

Skip ahead to 1959, Alfonso's son Francisco Chico de Guzmán. Francisco follows in his father's entrepreneurial footsteps and sets up his own business making shoes by hand. This business specialises in the Kiowas shoe or stitched moccasin. This tubular style shoe has proved to be a timeless classic similar to the driver shoe associated with 'old money'.

One year later in 1960, the Emboga was born. Francisco launched this new shoe brand in a bid to keep up to date with new technologies and processes. Que the arrival of the iconic Ye-Yemoc moccasin.

Moving on the next generation, Luis Chico de Guzmán (current Hispanitas CEO) joined his father Francisco in the Emboga business. Luis has a strong creative mindset having studied design and modelling at the prestigious Ars Sutoria design school in Milan. He later took over running his Father's business. In 1986 Luis was joined by his brother Carlos (Hispanitas assistant director) in running the business and expanding sales and distribution throughout Spain and Portugal along with Andorra and Gibraltar.

In the late 80's the brand expanded its reach within central Europe and took on the name Hispanitas. The inquisitive amongst you may well ask, why Hispanitas? Well, the term is used to describe small Spanish souvenirs that would embody the Spanish culture. The family were eager to proudly reflect their Spanish identity through the brand.

Thirty four years on from the brand launch Hispanitas is still going from strength to strength. Today the company has launched many retail stores across Portugal and Spain and distributes in over 55 countries as far as the USA and China.

But how have Hispanitas shoes made their mark in such a crowded market?

To quote the brand "We are a brand that takes great care in the quality of our materials and the manufacturing process of each of our models.  Our most representative values are mainly made in Spain, comfort, quality, design and our own personality, but another significant part of our DNA is made up of the history, the values, the people and the family tradition behind each pair of shoes we offer."

For Hispanitas its Spanish heritage is a core part of the brand, as a result keeping production local is of utmost importance. Most styles are produced in local factories in the shoe-making area of Alicante (along with a small part in Portugal). This helps the brand to ensure a socially responsible chain of supply as well as keeping the Spanish heritage and quality alive through their designs.
